Nikola Jokić’s Return Ignites Nuggets in 122-109 Victory Over Clippers

When the Denver Nuggets took the court Friday night against the Los Angeles Clippers, there was a palpable feeling of excitement in the Ball Arena. After a 16-game absence due to a knee injury, three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokić made his long-awaited return, and did not disappoint. Jokić’s performance fueled the Nuggets’ rally, as they won 122-109.

Jokić Returns — And Immediate Impact

Jokić, who had been sidelined since late December due to a bone bruise in his left knee, quickly demonstrated his value. In his return, the Serbian big man scored 31 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in just over 24 minutes, demonstrating his typical efficiency and all-around excellence. Despite his limited minutes, Jokić remained a key player for Denver’s success.

Jokić’s effectiveness was felt across the stat sheet: he led all scorers, controlled the paint, and delivered high-impact plays whenever the Nuggets needed a lift. His scoring outburst marked his 29th double-double of the season and capped off a triumphant return that helped snap the Clippers’ three-game winning streak.

Supporting Cast Steps Up

Denver’s triumph was not solely due to Jokić’s performance. Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 22 points, extending his season of consistent scoring. Peyton Watson contributed 21 points, infusing energy into the lineup, while Jamal Murray had 20 points and nine assists, managing the offense and keeping the Nuggets running on both sides of the floor. Jonas Valančiūnas scored 11 points, contributing to a balanced team effort.

Denver’s offense surged in the fourth quarter, thanks to Hardaway’s perimeter shooting and Jokić’s inside dominance, putting the game out of reach for Los Angeles and highlighting the team’s tactical execution with their MVP back in the lineup.

Clippers Rally but Fall Short

Despite being competitive, the Clippers were unable to match the Nuggets’ firepower once Jokić returned to the game. James Harden led Los Angeles with 25 points and nine assists, keeping the Clippers within striking distance for much of the game. Kawhi Leonard scored 21 points, while John Collins (18) and Ivica Zubac (13) contributed from both sides of the court.

Despite their balanced scoring and a strong defensive effort at times, the Clippers were unable to stop Denver’s fourth-quarter run. Their previously great streak was broken, but the club demonstrated tenacity and is a formidable rival in the Western Conference.

What This Win Means for Denver

Denver’s victory wasn’t just a win in the standings — it was a statement. Despite Jokić’s absence, the Nuggets finished 10-6, demonstrating their ability to compete. However, there was undeniable enthusiasm surrounding his return. Jokić’s presence not only boosts Denver’s game-winning potential, but also provides a psychological boost to a club dealing with injury issues.

Jokić’s consistent return to form enhances his case for another MVP season. Prior to his injury, he was averaging outstanding statistics in points, rebounds, and assists – a rare triple-threat statistical profile that kept him in the mix for big honors. His ability to contribute so efficiently in limited minutes speaks well for his long-term health and the Nuggets’ playoff chances.

Looking Ahead

While Denver is celebrating its massive home triumph, there are still hurdles ahead. The Nuggets have struggled with injuries all season, with key players like Aaron Gordon currently sidelined after his own recent setback. Having Jokić back and performing at a high level is a significant milestone.

Denver will seek to capitalize on this momentum as the regular season progresses and the stakes climb throughout the NBA standings. The Nuggets are once again a threat to any opponent, led by a healthy MVP Nikola Jokić. The league is reminded of the impact of a fully engaged Jokić.
