Distressing Moment on the Ice: Blues Star Dylan Holloway Rushed to Hospital After Puck Hits Neck
The NHL saw a frightening moment this week when St. Louis Blues forward Dylan Holloway had to be taken to the hospital after a puck struck him in the neck. The incident overshadowed the Blues’ hard-fought 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning at Missouri’s Enterprise Center.
In the closing moments of the first period, Lightning forward Nicholas Paul attempted a pass but accidentally sent the puck straight into Holloway’s neck. Incredibly, Holloway continued to play for another 30 seconds, even managing to launch a counter-attack. However, once he reached the bench, his condition worsened quickly, and he appeared disoriented before being helped onto a stretcher.

The game paused as medical staff rushed to Holloway’s aid. Both teams took a knee on the ice, and the crowd fell silent in concern. After Holloway was taken off to the hospital, the match resumed, but the atmosphere remained tense.
Despite the scary incident, Holloway shared good news the next morning. Remarkably, he’s hopeful to play in the Blues’ upcoming game against Utah Hockey Club this weekend.
“I feel good today, much better. It was obviously a scary moment,” Holloway said. He explained that the puck struck the vagus nerve in his neck, causing him to feel “a little off” but still determined to finish the play. “When I got to the bench, I started feeling woozy. I don’t remember much after that until I was on the stretcher.”
After the game, Blues teammate Oskar Sundqvist expressed relief upon hearing that Holloway was in stable condition.
