Alex Ovechkin Surpasses Wayne Gretzky to Become NHL’s All-Time Leading Goal Scorer

The Washington Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin broke Wayne Gretzky’s long-standing record to become the National Hockey League’s (NHL) all-time top goal scorer in a historic achievement.

On April 6, 2025, Ovechkin scored his 895th goal in his career at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, against the New York Islanders.

This goal was Ovechkin’s 895th in his remarkable career and broke Gretzky’s record of 894 goals.
