Vinicius Junior Set for Early Return as Real Madrid Prepare for Champions League Clash

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has provided a welcome update on Vinicius Junior’s recovery, confirming that the Brazilian star is set to return sooner than expected.

Initially ruled out until mid-December due to a hamstring injury, Vinicius is now on track to feature in Tuesday’s crucial Champions League match against Atalanta.

The winger, who suffered the injury in November, has made remarkable progress and trained with the team on Friday. However, he will miss Saturday’s La Liga fixture against Girona. Ancelotti expressed confidence in Vinicius’ readiness, saying, “Vini has recovered very well. He will not be ready for tomorrow, but he will be for the next Champions League game.”

Vinicius’ return couldn’t come at a better time for Madrid, who are struggling in their Champions League group. With three defeats in five matches, the team sits a lowly 24th in the group stage standings. His presence on the pitch will bring much-needed firepower as Madrid aim to turn their European campaign around.

Defender David Alaba, another key player recovering from a long-term knee injury, is also making progress. Ancelotti revealed that Alaba is expected to return in January, further strengthening the squad for the second half of the season.

In Vinicius’ absence, attention has shifted to Kylian Mbappe, who has struggled to find his best form since joining Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer. The French forward has scored 10 goals in 20 appearances across all competitions but recently missed crucial penalties in defeats to Liverpool and Athletic Bilbao.

Mbappe addressed his form on Instagram, vowing to “change this situation” and perform better. Ancelotti backed his star striker, highlighting his self-awareness and commitment to improving.

“He knows what he is doing and what he can do,” said Ancelotti. “Obviously, we’re with him. He’s not at his best level, but he knows it and is working hard to change that.”

The coach acknowledged Mbappe’s improvement in recent La Liga matches and hinted at the possibility of giving the forward some rest to help him regain his sharpness. “Sometimes a day of rest could be good for him,” said Ancelotti.

Ancelotti also addressed criticism directed at him over Madrid’s recent form. While he admitted some of the critiques were justified, he viewed them as motivation to do better. “Like stress, criticism is fuel to try and do better,” he remarked.

With Vinicius returning and Mbappe determined to improve, Madrid will hope for a stronger performance against Atalanta in the Champions League. As the team battles to regain its footing in Europe, all eyes will be on these two stars to deliver when it matters most.
