Sweeney and Carpenter Power Tigers to 13-1 Win Over Angels

On Sunday, May 4, 2025, the Detroit Tigers defeated the Los Angeles Angels 13-1 at Angel Stadium to wrap off their four-game series. With the victory, the Tigers won the series 3-1 and have now won four of their previous five games.

With a combined total of 11 RBIs, rookie shortstop Trey Sweeney and outfielder Kerry Carpenter spearheaded the offensive assault. Sweeney drove in six runs, including a home run, while going 4-for-5 at the plate. Carpenter added a home run to his total and contributed five RBIs.

Over the course of the four-game series, the Tigers’ unrelenting attack scored 34 runs, which was their highest series total since 2013. Twelve home runs were hit during this surge, which was their most during a seven-game span since 2004.

Reese Olson pitched a solid game on the mound, giving up just three hits and three walks in five scoreless innings with eight strikeouts. Beau Brieske and Will Vest provided strong relief as the bullpen held the advantage.

Due to their poor play, the Angels have now dropped eight of their previous nine games. The bullpen was unable to keep the Tigers’ batters in check, as starter Jack Kochanowicz gave up five runs in five innings.

The Tigers now have a 22-13 record, the second-best record in Major League Baseball, and the lead in run differential after this victory. With possible weather delays predicted for the first game, they now travel to Colorado for a series against the Rockies.

The Tigers are now positioned as serious league contenders thanks to their recent performances, which highlighted their offensive ability and depth in the pitching staff. As the season progresses, supporters have every reason to be hopeful about the team’s future.
