Rugby Veteran and Fan Favorite Leaves Championship Club Halifax Panthers for Exciting New Opportunity

Former France international Kevin Larroyer has announced his departure from Championship club Halifax Panthers. The 35-year-old forward, who joined Halifax in 2019, spent six seasons at The Shay, making 126 appearances and scoring eight tries. Larroyer, who has also played for Catalans Dragons, Hull KR, Castleford Tigers, and Leigh, will move on this offseason to pursue new opportunities, though his next club is yet to be revealed.

During his time with the Panthers, Larroyer was instrumental in helping the team win the 1895 Cup at Wembley in 2023, although league success in the Championship eluded them.

Reflecting on his departure, Larroyer shared, “It’s a bag of mixed emotions. After six amazing years at Halifax, it’s official that I’ll be leaving. I have fantastic memories – from the Challenge Cup semi-final against St Helens, memorable derby wins against Bradford, to our trip to Wembley to win the 1895 Cup.”

He added, “Halifax revived my passion for rugby at a time when I needed it most, and I’ll cherish the memories and the support I received here. Though it’s hard to say goodbye to a club that has meant so much to me, I wish them all the best for the future.”

Halifax Panthers CEO Damian Clayton expressed his appreciation, stating, “On behalf of the club, I want to extend my sincere gratitude to Kevin Larroyer for his outstanding contributions over the past six years. Since 2019, Kev has been a true leader, known for his honesty, insightful feedback, and passion for the game. His dedication to Halifax was marked by significant milestones, including his 100th appearance, symbolizing his loyalty and consistency.”

Clayton added that Larroyer’s impact extended beyond the field, inspiring teammates and staff with his integrity and commitment. “As he moves on to new challenges, we wish him every success; he’ll always be part of the Panthers family and will be welcomed back at The Shay anytime.”
