With a decisive 6-2 victory in the first game of their first-round playoff series against the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Florida Panthers gained home ice advantage and established the tone for the “Battle of Florida.”
Tkachuk’s Triumphant Return
Panthers winger Matthew Tkachuk had a big impact in his comeback after missing the last 25 games of the regular season because of a lower-body ailment.

He led Florida’s offensive and gave the squad energy with two power-play goals and an assist.
Special Teams Excellence
Florida’s power play was perfect, scoring on each of its three chances. Forwards Sam Bennett and Sam Reinhart each had a goal and an assist, and defenseman Nate Schmidt scored two goals, including one on the power play.
With two more assists, captain Aleksander Barkov demonstrated the team’s depth and unity.
Goaltending and Defensive Strength
With 20 saves, goalkeeper Sergei Bobrovsky put up a strong showing and successfully stopped Tampa Bay’s offensive attempts.
The Panthers’ defense showed structure and discipline by limiting the Lightning to only 22 shots on goal.
Lightning’s Struggles
Jake Guentzel and Brayden Point scored goals for Tampa Bay’s offense, but the team was unable to apply steady pressure.
Andrei Vasilevskiy, the keeper, had difficulties; he gave up six goals on 16 shots before being substituted.

Looking Ahead
As they get ready for Game 2, the Panthers are in a strong position with a 1-0 series lead. Regaining home-ice advantage and tying the series will need the Lightning to reorganize and modify their tactics.
