Luis Suárez Extends Stay with Inter Miami for 2025 Season

Luis Suárez is set to continue his partnership with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami for another year. The club announced on Wednesday that the Uruguayan striker has agreed to a one-year contract extension for the 2025 season.

Although financial details were not disclosed, Suárez earned $1.5 million during his first season with Inter Miami in 2024. The 37-year-old striker made an immediate impact, scoring 20 goals in Major League Soccer regular season play, tying Messi for the team lead. Across all competitions, Suárez netted 25 goals, making him Inter Miami’s top scorer.

“I’m thrilled to stay another year,” Suárez said in a statement released by the team. “The connection we have with the fans is like family, and I look forward to giving them even more reasons to celebrate next season.”

Inter Miami had a historic 2024 MLS season, setting records for points (74) and winning percentage (.765). The team’s impressive 22-4-8 record earned them the Supporters’ Shield, though their playoff run ended prematurely with a first-round exit against Atlanta United in a best-of-three series.

Suárez’s extension solidifies Inter Miami’s core of former Barcelona stars, including Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba. Newly appointed head coach Javier Mascherano, another Barcelona alumnus, reunites with the group, further strengthening the club’s identity as a hub for global talent with ties to the Spanish powerhouse.

Suárez, who turns 38 in January, has shown no signs of slowing down. His performance this season reaffirmed his reputation as one of the greatest strikers in football history.

“In 2024, Luis brought all the qualities that make him one of the best strikers of all time,” said Inter Miami’s president of football operations, Raúl Sanllehí. “He was our top scorer, a leader on and off the pitch, and his contributions cannot be overstated. We’re excited to see what he’ll achieve next season.”

Suárez’s storied career includes appearances in four World Cups for Uruguay and stints at some of the world’s biggest clubs, including Liverpool and Atlético Madrid. His accolades include Dutch Player of the Year, Premier League Player of the Season, FIFA Club World Cup Golden Ball, and selection to the World Cup All-Star Team.

Now, with his sights set on another season with Inter Miami, Suárez remains a pivotal piece of the team’s ambitions. Fans will undoubtedly be eager to see what he and his star-studded teammates accomplish in 2025 as they aim to build on this year’s success.
