Kerry Carpenter’s Two Home Runs Propel Tigers to Victory in Home Opener

The Detroit Tigers defeated the Chicago White Sox 7–4 on Friday afternoon at Comerica Park to start their home schedule. 

With two solo home runs—his third multi-homer game—outfielder Kerry Carpenter played a key role in the victory.  

Game Highlights

Kerry Carpenter’s Performance: The Tigers took an early lead when Carpenter hit their first home run in the first inning. Later, in the fourth inning, he extended Detroit’s lead with another single homer. 

Riley Greene’s Contribution: Greene demonstrated his offensive ability by adding a single home run to his three hits, which complemented Carpenter’s efforts.

Pitching Excellence: Jack Flaherty, who started the game, won the victory by giving up just one run on three hits in five and a third innings while striking out seven batters. The White Sox’s lineup was well limited by the bullpen, which included Will Vest, Kenta Maeda, and Tyler Holton. 

Historical Context

The Tigers have won 14 of their previous 17 home openers, and this victory carries on their impressive run.

Carpenter’s versatility and power at the plate are demonstrated by his ability to knock home runs to both sides of the game, including one against a left-handed pitcher that was hit opposite-field.
