Kazuchika Okada Celebrates One Year as AEW Continental Champion

One year as the AEW Continental Champion was a major accomplishment for Kazuchika Okada on March 20, 2025.

This accomplishment highlights his power and reliability in All Elite Wrestling (AEW). 

The Championship Victory

On March 20, 2024, Okada won the AEW Continental Championship in an AEW Dynamite match at the Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto, Ontario. In a historic match that demonstrated his extraordinary wrestling skills, he defeated Eddie Kingston to win the title.  

A Year of Successful Title Defenses

Throughout his year-long reign, Okada has defended the championship eleven times against a diverse array of challengers, including:

  • Brody King: Okada further solidified his reputation as a tough champion on March 9, 2025, when he defeated the fearsome Brody King to successfully defend his championship at AEW Revolution. 
  • Buddy Matthews: When Okada competed Buddy Matthews in AEW Grand Slam Australia in February 2025, he demonstrated his versatility and expertise in holding onto the title. 
  • Bryan Danielson: Okada proved his technical prowess and cemented his reputation in AEW as he defeated Bryan Danielson in a much-anticipated title defense. 

Participation in the Continental Classic Tournament

Okada further solidified his dominance in the promotion with a noteworthy victory in the Continental Classic Tournament during his reign, in addition to his title defenses.  

Historical Significance

Okada’s 365-day reign as of March 20, 2025, is the sixth-longest title reign in the history of the company and the longest among current AEW champions.
