Two of WWE’s most recognizable talents will square off in a historic matchup at Backlash 2025 as John Cena defends the Undisputed WWE Championship against Randy Orton.

On Saturday, May 10, the Enterprise Center in Orton’s hometown of St. Louis, Missouri, will host this much awaited game. 

A Rivalry Reignited

With multiple meetings over the years, the Cena-Orton feud is among the most legendary in WWE history. A new chapter in their long-running feud will be added when they face off at Backlash, their first one-on-one pay-per-view bout in almost ten years.

The seeds for this confrontation were sown on the Raw episode following WrestleMania 41. Orton announced his intention to contend for the title by ambushing Cena with a surprise RKO as he spoke to the WWE Universe following his historic 17th world title victory against Cody Rhodes.

Cena’s Farewell Tour

With plans to retire from in-ring action by the end of 2025, John Cena is presently on his final tour. For his supporters, this battle is even more important because Backlash 2025 will be his first appearance at the tournament since 2009.
