Former LSU Wide Receiver Kyren Lacy Died From a Self-inflicted Gunshot Wound

Kyren Lacy, a 24-year-old former LSU wide receiver and NFL Draft prospect, passed away unexpectedly on April 12, 2025, in Houston, Texas, by suspected suicide. The sports community is in sorrow.

According to authorities, after a police chase that resulted in an accident, Lacy was discovered dead in his car from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Days before a planned court hearing over a December 2024 vehicle accident in Louisiana that claimed the life of 78-year-old Herman Hall, Lacy passed away. Among the charges brought against him were felony hit-and-run, reckless driving, and negligent homicide.

Lacy has declared for the 2025 NFL Draft with the intention of continuing his football career in spite of legal hurdles.

He demonstrated his ability as a professional athlete during his final season at LSU, recording 58 receptions for 866 yards and nine touchdowns.

Following his death, Lacy’s father, Kenny Lacy, stressed the value of mental health awareness and encouraged parents to keep lines of communication open with their kids.

The untimely death of Kyren Lacy highlights the urgent need for mental health assistance, particularly for those dealing with personal and legal difficulties.

His narrative is a powerful reminder of the difficulties that young athletes may face and the value of easily available mental health services.
