Eddie Hearn Targets September For Eubank Jr. vs. Benn Rematch

According to promoter Eddie Hearn, the eagerly awaited rematch between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn is provisionally set for September 2025 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

This declaration comes after their fierce fight in April, in which Eubank Jr. defeated Benn via unanimous decision.

A Rivalry Renewed

Echoing the historic fights between their dads, Chris Eubank Sr. and Nigel Benn, in the 1990s, the first matchup between Eubank Jr. and Benn was laden with tradition.

Both competitors shown incredible tenacity and drive in the April fight, which lived up to expectations. Benn showed tenacity in spite of the defeat, almost defeating Eubank Jr. in the eighth round.

Health and Safety Concerns

Ben Shalom, Eubank Jr.’s promoter, later explained that Eubank Jr.’s hospitalization following the fight was a precautionary measure, despite reports of a broken jaw.

Particularly for Benn, who stepped up two weight classes for the fight, the match’s physical toll has caused anxiety. Given the possible hazards to Benn’s long-term health, Hearn has voiced hesitancy about the rematch.

Contractual Obligations and Venue

Despite health issues, a two-fight deal made prior to the first fight seems to be the reason for the rematch.

Hearn maintains that certain provisions in the contract, including the 170-pound rehydration clause, will be upheld. The significance of the event is highlighted by the selection of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as the location; 65,000 spectators attended the previous fight.

Financial Stakes

The rematch has significant financial implications. According to reports, Benn received $8 million for the first bout, while Eubank Jr. received $10 million after a $500,000 deduction for a minor weight infraction.

These numbers demonstrate the rematch’s high stakes and commercial appeal.

Looking Ahead

Both boxers must make important choices as the September rematch gets closer. Benn places a high priority on his health and ideal weight class.

However, Eubank Jr. has to deal with issues related to recovery and weight control. More revelations in this gripping story are keenly anticipated by the boxing community.
