Superstar Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers and his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, have announced with excitement the arrival of their first child, a daughter.
On Saturday, April 19, 2025, the couple announced the news on Ohtani’s Instagram page, along with a touching message and a picture of their newborn’s little feet and their cherished dog, Decoy.

In his announcement, Ohtani expressed profound gratitude:
“I am so grateful to my loving wife who gave birth to our healthy beautiful daughter. To my daughter, thank you for making us very nervous yet super anxious parents.”
Mamiko Tanaka, a 28-year-old Japanese basketball player, used to play professionally. Known for keeping their personal life discreet, the pair had previously announced their marriage in February 2024 and their pregnancy in December 2024 with a cute picture of their dog, Decoy, a pink onesie, baby shoes, and a sonogram.
Ohtani was added to Major League Baseball’s paternity list after the delivery, which permits players to take up to three days off.
He is anticipated to return to the Dodgers for their forthcoming series in Chicago, despite missing their games against the Texas Rangers.
Ohtani’s incredible journey on and off the field is further enhanced by this personal milestone. He signed a historic $700 million contract with the Dodgers in December 2023, and his outstanding play has kept him in the news ever since.

In the 2025 season, Ohtani is currently hitting.288 with six home runs, eight RBIs, and five stolen bases.
The new parents have received congratulations from the Dodgers organization and fans around the world. During a game broadcast, manager Dave Roberts officially acknowledged the birth and expressed his joy for Ohtani and Tanaka.
The baseball community is excited for Ohtani to return to the field with the same commitment and zeal that have characterized his career as he begins this new chapter of parenting.
