Cole Caufield scored twice, including the game-winning goal, to lead the Montreal Canadiens to a 7-5 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Monday night. The win snapped Montreal’s six-game losing streak, while ending Buffalo’s three-game winning run.
Caufield’s two goals brought his season total to a league-leading 12. His second goal, a power-play score with 7:02 remaining in the third period, secured the Canadiens’ lead for the rest of the game.
Buffalo’s leading scorer, Tage Thompson, and defenseman Mattias Samuelsson both left the game with lower-body injuries and did not return.

For the Sabres, Rasmus Dahlin and Dylan Cozens each recorded a goal and an assist, while Thompson, Peyton Krebs, and JJ Peterka also found the net.
Montreal’s Nick Suzuki contributed two goals and an assist, while Juraj Slafkovsky tallied three assists. Josh Anderson, Christian Dvorak, and Emil Heineman rounded out the Canadiens’ scoring efforts.
