CM Punk Opens Up on Potential John Cena Feud: “Never Say Never”

One of WWE’s most vocal and divisive superstars, CM Punk, has once again raised the prospect of collaborating with longtime foe John Cena.

There has been a lot of conjecture over the possible revival of the rivalry between the two legends since Punk’s unexpected return to WWE at Survivor Series 2023 and Cena’s growing participation in WWE plots.

CM Punk’s History with John Cena

A period in WWE history, especially in the early 2010s, was characterized by the rivalry between CM Punk and John Cena. The now-iconic Money in the Bank 2011 bout, in which Punk defeated Cena for the WWE Championship in his hometown of Chicago, marked the end of their illustrious feud and gave rise to the notorious “pipebomb” story. Their latter matches, including as the 2013 five-star match on RAW, are still regarded as among of the best in contemporary WWE history.

CM Punk was asked if he would be interested in re-entering the ring with John Cena in a recent interview. Punk admitted that, despite his initial reluctance, he would never totally rule out the prospect.

“Look, John and I had our battles. We told some incredible stories. Do I think we could do it again? I don’t know, but in this business, you never say never.”

Punk also pointed out that while Cena has transitioned more into Hollywood, his sporadic WWE appearances show that he still has the passion for wrestling.

“John’s doing his thing in Hollywood, but whenever he comes back, it’s a big deal. If the stars align, who knows? But right now, I’m focused on writing my own story here in WWE.”

The Potential for a Cena vs. Punk Feud in 2025

Fans have been making predictions about Punk’s ideal fights as WrestleMania 41 approaches. One of WWE’s biggest blockbuster matches of the decade might be a matchup with Cena, who has stated that he still has a few matches left in him.

Recent performances by Cena in the WWE have alluded to unresolved business, and considering their past interactions, it wouldn’t be shocking if WWE took advantage of this.

What’s Next for CM Punk?

CM Punk has stated that he is prepared to face whatever challenge that WWE presents, even though a feud with John Cena is still up in the air. His comeback has already rekindled interest in WWE, and Punk’s presence guarantees that WWE in 2025 will be a must-watch show regardless of whether he fights Cena or another elite performer.
