Brad Stevens, president of basketball operations for the Boston Celtics, has responded to recent reports that he is interested in taking Indiana University’s head coaching job.
As Stevens explained his position to Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68, “I thoroughly appreciate being a Celtic and love the people I get to work with every day.”
Stevens, who was born in Indiana, became well-known across the country after guiding Butler University to back-to-back NCAA championship games in 2010 and 2011. His success at Butler propelled him to the NBA, where he served as the Celtics’ head coach from 2013 to 2021 before transitioning to his current executive role.

Stevens has often denied rumors that he will return to coaching at the university level, despite his strong ties to Indiana basketball. His recent remarks highlight his commitment to the Boston Celtics organization and his satisfaction with his position there.
According to reports, Indiana University is looking for a replacement for head coach Mike Woodson, who intends to retire at the end of this season.
Even though Stevens’ name comes up often in these coaching searches, his confirmation implies that the Hoosiers will have to look at other applicants.
Stevens’s dedication to the Boston Celtics and his rejection of any thoughts of returning to college basketball are further cemented as the team continues its goal of winning another NBA championship.
