By acquiring free agent Easton Stick, the Atlanta Falcons have increased the depth of their quarterback position. After six seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers, the 29-year-old quarterback has joined the Falcons.

The agreement’s conditions have not been made public.  

Easton Stick’s NFL Journey

Stick, who was selected by the Chargers in the fifth round (166th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft, had a stellar collegiate career at North Dakota State University, where he won four FCS national titles.

Stick played in six games during his time with the Chargers, including four starts in 2023 when starter quarterback Justin Herbert was injured. He completed 64% of his throws in those games, amassed 1,133 passing yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.  

Falcons’ Quarterback Landscape

Stick’s signing coincides with a time of change in the Falcons’ quarterback room. The team still has veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins, who was benched during the 2024 season in favor of rookie Michael Penix Jr.

However, because Cousins has a no-trade clause in his contract, there is constant speculation over a possible deal involving him. Arthur Blank, owner of the Falcons, has stated that he is open to keeping Cousins on as a backup, but he is also open to trade proposals.

Michael Penix Jr. is expected to start at quarterback for the Falcons in 2025. The team also has Emory Jones, an undrafted 2024 signee, on the roster, which increases competition and depth at quarterback.
