Alabama Completes Season Sweep Over Kentucky with Dominant 96-83 Victory

In a crucial Southeastern Conference (SEC) battle, the No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide triumphed with a commanding 96-83 victory against the No. 17 Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday evening at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa. 

This win not only snapped Alabama’s two-game losing streak but also signified the regular-season sweep over Kentucky, a milestone accomplished for just the fourth time in the history of the program.  

Game Overview

The Wildcats began the game with great energy, jumping to a 12-point lead during the first half. However, Alabama came back with an impressive 24-4 run, turning the tide and ending the first half with a 47-40 lead. 

In the second half, the Crimson Tide sustained their advantage, successfully thwarting Kentucky’s attempts to take back control. 

Standout Performances

  • Mark Sears: The senior guard put on an incredible display, topping all scorers with 30 points. This match was his second straight game scoring at least 30 points, after a 35-point game against Missouri. Sears’ reliability and guidance were crucial to Alabama’s victory.
  • Aden Holloway: By scoring 19 points as a substitute, Holloway’s precise shooting delivered an important boost, particularly during Alabama’s rally in the first half. 
  • Chris Youngblood: Adding 14 points, Youngblood’s defensive efforts and timely scoring bolstered the Crimson Tide’s dominance. citeturn0search1
  • Clifford Omoruyi: The center was a force in the paint, recording a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds, anchoring Alabama’s interior defense. 

Koby Brea was the top scorer for Kentucky, contributing 20 points, while Amari Williams recorded 17 points along with 11 rebounds and six assists. Despite their contributions, the Wildcats found it difficult to handle Alabama’s offensive barrage.  

Historical Significance

This triumph marks Alabama’s eighth victory over an Associated Press Top-25 team this season, establishing a new record for the program. Moreover, head coach Nate Oats has achieved his 26th win against a ranked opponent since taking the helm at Alabama, exceeding Wimp Sanderson’s previous record for the most in the program’s history.

With this victory, Alabama’s record improves to 22-5 overall and 11-3 in SEC competition, reinforcing their status as a strong challenger in the conference. The Crimson Tide’s next challenge will be against No. 

21 Mississippi State on Tuesday, February 25, at Coleman Coliseum. Kentucky, now standing at 18-9 overall and 7-7 in the SEC, will look to regroup as they get ready to face Oklahoma in a significant game that could affect their postseason hopes.
