Mason Mount of Manchester United has suffered yet another setback. Head coach Ruben Amorim has confirmed that the 25-year-old will be sidelined for a considerable amount of time owing to a muscle injury he experienced during the Red Devils’ 2-1 derby triumph against Manchester City.
Since arriving to United in the summer of 2023, Mount has battled injuries, making only 32 appearances during his tenure. While expressing disappointment at the setback, Amorim emphasized that Mount will benefit from the break by being able to better adjust to the team’s style of play.
Speaking about Mount’s situation, Amorim said, “It’s going to be for a long time. That is not my department [to assess injury reasons], but what I can do is help Mason to learn our game during his recovery. We’ll try to use this time for him to think about different aspects of play.”
Amorim also admitted the challenge of integrating players returning from injury due to the demanding football schedule. “We don’t have time to train like we should when you’re recovering from injuries. With all the traveling and matches, it’s hard to prepare players for games properly,” he added.
Victor Lindelöf was substituted at halftime as United’s defensive woes persisted in their 4-3 Carabao Cup quarterfinal loss to Tottenham on Thursday. Lindelöf’s limited availability this season has frustrated Amorim, who said that even with careful training preparation, the intensity of games frequently wears a player down.
“We pushed Vic really hard in training, made sure he was ready, but games are a completely different challenge,” Amorim explained.
In the meantime, speculation regarding Marcus Rashford’s future has been stoked by his exclusion from the Manchester City game and his absence from the match-day squad for the Spurs loss. Many people took the forward’s recent statement that he’s “ready for a new challenge” as an indication that he wants to leave Old Trafford.
Amorim responded, “Yes, of course,” when asked if Rashford would be available for Sunday’s Premier League matchup against Bournemouth. His exclusion was not a punitive measure; rather, it was a selection decision.
Manchester United is in a crucial stage of their season due to the growing number of injuries and uncertainty around important players like Rashford. In order to stabilize in the Premier League, Amorim will have to strike a balance between player recovery, squad rotation, and tactical changes.
Despite these difficulties, supporters will be hopeful that Mount’s recuperation period ends up being advantageous in the long run and that United’s on-field performance improves.
