Ruben Amorim Urges Manchester United Fans to Focus on Performances After Everton Win

Ruben Amorim’s tenure as Manchester United head coach continues to inspire hope and optimism, but the 39-year-old Portuguese manager is staying grounded despite his team’s emphatic 4-0 win over Everton on Sunday. The victory marked Amorim’s first Premier League triumph since taking over from Erik ten Hag, who departed after a rocky start to the season.

Manchester United delivered one of their most complete performances of the season against Everton. Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee both netted twice, leading the Red Devils to a comprehensive win in front of an elated Old Trafford crowd.

Amorim’s name echoed through the stadium, with fans beginning to believe in the manager’s vision for the club. Yet, while the victory moved United to ninth in the Premier League—just four points off the top four—Amorim is urging caution.

When asked about the possibility of challenging for Champions League qualification, Amorim kept expectations in check.

“I understand that,” Amorim said when asked about fans’ hopes. “It’s hard for me. If I say no, you will say that I cannot be a Manchester United coach. I want to be honest with our fans, so let’s focus on the performance, not the results. So, we’ll see in the end.”

Amorim emphasized the importance of steady progress, highlighting that his success will ultimately be judged by where United finish this season. “Sometimes we play like Thursday, which was 3-2 but I think we deserve more. Today was a 4-0. I think everything deserved more also,” he added.

With Arsenal up next on Wednesday, Amorim is determined to maintain momentum while keeping his squad grounded.

While Rashford and Zirkzee grabbed the headlines with their goals, it was Amad Diallo who stole the show with a dazzling all-around performance. The 22-year-old winger’s relentless pressing led to two goals and an assist, showcasing his growth under Amorim and the foundation laid by former interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.

“He was really good again,” Amorim said of Diallo. “He’s in a great moment, but that moment starts with Ruud. I just take advantage of Ruud’s work with Amad. He was really good defending and really good attacking, so he has to continue to play like that.”

However, Amorim cautioned that Diallo’s physical conditioning still needs careful management. “You could feel at the end of the game that he was really, really tired, so we have also to manage that as he increases his physical ability,” Amorim noted.

Amorim’s arrival has undoubtedly sparked new energy at Manchester United. Back-to-back positive results—Thursday’s dramatic 3-2 comeback win over Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League and the Everton rout—have fans optimistic about a potential turnaround.

However, Amorim’s message is clear: success will come from focusing on performances, not getting carried away by individual results. With tough fixtures against Arsenal and other top teams looming, the Portuguese manager is determined to ensure that United build on their progress while keeping expectations realistic.

As Manchester United fans revel in the newfound excitement, Amorim’s measured approach could be just what the club needs to navigate its way back to the top.
