Breaking records and making history: Mbappé’s treble in 6 minutes and 42 seconds is the second fastest in UEFA Champions League history, trailing only Mohamed Salah’s 2022 effort.

Breaking the Greek jinx: Up until now, Real Madrid had never won away at Olympiacos.  This victory brings the club’s winless streak in Greece to an end. 

Confidence restored: Madrid had gone a few games without a win in any competition; this result, delivered under pressure and away from home, could be the spark the squad needs to move forward.

Mbappé: Superstar Mode Activated

What stood out was not just Mbappé’s finishing, but also his performance under pressure.  His hat-trick came not in a burst of dominance, but in response to conceding first and facing a real threat.  He timed his runs perfectly, exploited defensive flaws, and remained calm even when the scoreboard swung wildly.

After the game, Mbappé admitted that Madrid had been put under pressure: three games without a win is “a lot for a team like us,” he said — but he also emphasised the importance of recovering. 

This was more than just an excellent striker performance.  It was a statement: when it comes down to it, Mbappé can win games on his own.

Real Madrid’s front-line, led by Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior, played a key role in the team’s comeback.
