Boston College’s Ryan Leonard delivered a highlight-reel goal to lift the second-ranked Eagles to a thrilling 3-2 overtime win against No. 10 Providence on Tuesday night. The 19-year-old winger showcased his creativity and persistence, scoring his eighth goal of the season in spectacular fashion with just 48.4 seconds left in the extra period.
Leonard initially fanned on a shot but quickly improvised, pulling off a dazzling behind-the-back backhander that slid through the legs of Providence goaltender Philip Svedebäck.
The goal marked Leonard’s third game-winner in his last four outings and his fourth of the season. It also extended his goal streak to four games, tying the longest of his college career.
The Eagles needed Leonard’s late-game heroics to force overtime. With just over four minutes left in regulation, he found the back of the net to tie the game 2-2. E

arlier in the contest, Leonard assisted on Boston College’s opening goal, scored by teammate Gabe Perreault in the first period.
Leonard’s recent performances have been nothing short of dominant. Over the past two games, he’s racked up six points (3 goals, 3 assists), bringing his season total to 14 points (8 goals, 6 assists) in 10 games. His eight goals are tied for third nationally, just two shy of the NCAA leader, Sam Harris of Denver.
Boston College improved to 8-2-0 overall and 3-1 in Hockey East play with the victory. The Eagles now prepare for a two-game series against in-state rival Northeastern University later this week. Leonard scored once in two meetings with Northeastern last season, with the teams splitting the series 1-1.
The upcoming matchup provides another chance for Leonard to continue his remarkable form and help Boston College maintain their strong start to the season.
