Rodri Plans Quick Comeback from injury as Manchester City struggle for form

Manchester City midfielder Rodri is targeting a return from injury this season, despite initially being ruled out for the remainder of the campaign due to a serious knee injury.

Rodri suffered an ACL and meniscus injury during the Premier League clash against Arsenal in September, which led to surgery. At the time, City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed the injury would keep Rodri sidelined for the rest of the season.

“We got the worst [news possible],” Guardiola said, “but it is what it is. We are there to support him, and he will take it step by step.”

Since Rodri’s injury, Manchester City has struggled for form, losing four consecutive matches in all competitions, including defeats to Bournemouth and Brighton in the Premier League.

Although his return is not imminent, Rodri remains optimistic about playing again this season. “I have in mind to play this season,” Rodri said in an interview on Spanish radio station COPE.

“Now that the seasons are getting longer, with the Club World Cup ending in July, I’m aiming to return this year. I’ve already started walking, and I’m feeling better than I thought.”

Rodri also addressed speculation about his future, dismissing the idea of returning to Spain to play for a La Liga club. The 28-year-old emphasized his happiness at Manchester City, stating, “I’m very happy here. Since I arrived in England, I’ve felt that it’s my home.

The English league is special, and I feel very identified with the club. It’s not just about the team; it’s a very family-oriented club, and I feel comfortable here.”

Despite their recent struggles, Manchester City remains in second place in the Premier League, five points behind leaders Liverpool. Guardiola’s side will return to action after the international break with back-to-back home matches against Tottenham in the Premier League and Feyenoord in the Champions League.
